Distinguished and Famous people from Coorong
⚙️ David Unaipon
Ngarrindjeri writer, inventor and preacher David Unaipon was born at Raukkan, then known as Point McLeay, in 1872. His interests ranged from mechanical invention to music and the recording of Aboriginal stories. An improved sheep-shearing handpiece was among his inventions, while his writing helped bring Aboriginal voices into print. He also played the organ and pursued a lifelong interest in science. The face familiar from Australia’s fifty-dollar note belongs to a man whose intellectual life began beside the lower Murray and Coorong.
